Louisville, Kentucky is a vibrant, active, and rich city. It is a city filled with delightful contradictions. On one hand, Louisville is filled with Southern charm and hospitality, priding itself on having friendly citizens and historic Southern roots, while on the other hand, exhibiting cutting edge technology, being ethnically diverse, and artistically prominent. Louisville is home to the largest Victorian style neighborhood, while manufacturing 90% of all U.S disco balls. Louisville is a city full of surprises, character, and a whole lot of charm.
With a population of around 750,000 citizens, Louisville is a big city that doesn’t feel too big. Louisville is best known for the Kentucky Derby, the first of three thoroughbred races for the Triple Crown. And while Louisville is the place to be for that first Saturday in May, it has so much more to offer. 1/3 of the World’s bourbon is created in Louisville, Louisville is home to the Nation’s largest urban forest, and has over 120 parks.
Louisville is a city of neighborhoods. With several distinct communities within communities, Louisville neighborhoods take pride in themselves. In Old Louisville you will find the largest assembly of restored Victorian homes in the Country, a diverse community, and an abundance of revitalization happening in the area. The Highlands is a community filled with food, art, shopping, and fun. It is a walkable neighborhood where the bustling of restaurants and bars can go until the early morning hours. Prospect is a slower paced neighborhood, very family-oriented, and a little further from Downtown. Here you can hear the birds chirp, and enjoy the stars from your back yard. Louisville offers a neighborhood for everyone, you just need to find the right fit for you.
Louisville offers 120 parks, with plans for a continuous loop for 100 miles around the city. The three major Parks, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, known as “the Father of landscape architecture,” are Cherokee, Iroquois, and Shawnee Parks. These Parks span across the City, and offer golf courses, dog parks, running trails, tennis courts, playgrounds, baseball fields, soccer fields, and countless other amenities to the citizens of Louisville. Frederick Law Olmsted is the reason why Louisville is called the “City of Parks.”
There is so much that Louisville has to offer. Great restaurants, low property taxes, and an excellent college basketball city! What more could you ask for!
