Among the most influential developers of Anchorage was a man named Edward Dorsey Hobbs, a surveyor, who had drawn some of the earliest maps of Louisville and Anchorage. He was involved in the establishment of the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad through

Anchorage in 1849. Along with Hobbs, James W. Goslee is responsible for Anchorage’s name. Riverboat Captain James Goslee was said to have removed an anchor from his ship in 1869 and placed it on his lawn at “the Anchorage” as a monument to the River, the railroad and those who shaped the Town’s growth. That Anchor still sits in the City’s Center today.
